The programme aims to meet the needs of learners who would like to learn English as an additional language to:

Continue on to study at Level 1 of New Zealand Certificates in English Language (NZCEL);

Participate effectively in everyday life activities in NZ
This qualification is at a level comparable to the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) low A1.
Programme Content
This course covers elements of the four skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing as well as New Zealand culture.
Learning Outcomes
Graduates of this qualification will have, in a supportive environment, the English language skills to:

Understand familiar words and very basic phrases for the most common everyday situations.

Participate effectively in sustained spoken discourse for social and transactional purposes.

Understand main ideas and supporting details of moderately complex written texts of a general nature.

Write simple isolated phrases and sentences giving personal information.
